February Newsletter

DIVISION 9’S FEBRUARY NEWS AND STUDENT NAMES FOR VALENTINES!

Wow, it is hard to believe that January is already over!  February will be a short, very busy but fun month.  Yesterday your child brought home information about our exciting new reading program ‘Club RED’.  Please help your child become a CLUB RED member by reading at home every day (you will need to initial).  Also please look at the special dates in the letter so you and your child are prepared – PLEASE NOTE DRESS UP AS YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER HAS BEEN CHANGED TO THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28th.    Thanks for your help with this program.

As posted on the blog – Ms Lemire is now doing the majority of the teaching as is required for her teaching certification.  We have been learning lots about our bodies and the individual organs.  Hopefully your child is discussing some of these at home with you.  The next couple of weeks we will be finishing our body unit as well as celebrating Valentines and Hundred Day.  We will then be moving onto Nutrition.  Flyers are needed for a special project, please bring in any food flyers.
You may have also heard about “Filling our Buckets” please look at the blog for more details and also ask your child if they were a bucket filler or digger today.

Valentine’s Day – We will be having a class celebration on Thursday, February 14th.  Below is a list of all the children in our class.  If you are planning to send valentines it is important that you send a valentine for everyone in the class so that no one feels left out.
Treats for our Valentine’s celebration will be supplied by:
Emily – a fruit tray, Ashton – sandwiches/wraps or cheese and crackers, Geena - sweet goodies, Jakob – chips/pretzels and Jordyn – chocolate chip cookies.  Thanks to all of you in advance.  If you would like you can send a juice box with your child for the celebration.

Cole                    Karman                        Morgan               Nic

Hundred Day is also coming up (on Valentine’s Day) and we are asking that each student bring in a poster with 100 objects glued on to it.   We want the students to be creative and design anything they would like, using 100 things (cereal pieces, pennies, pompoms, stickers, candy, paperclips, pictures, etc.).  We will be sending a piece of paper home that could be used for this project and please return completed projects by February 13th – if they are finished early please send in when done.  Thank you in advance for your help with this project.  If you have any questions please just ask or send a note in the planner.
The primary department will be having a special celebration to recognize that we have been in school for 100 Days on Monday, February 18th.  On that day if you could also please send in a baggie of 100 goodies (cheerios, candies, marshmallows, other cereal pieces, etc.) we are planning to make a special 100 day snack!

Sharing will still be happening but we are trying something new!  Each week will have a special focus that they need to follow.  It will still be a mystery sharing so they will need 3 clues.  Their days will stay the same, if your child forgets their sharing unfortunately though they will not be able to share another day (up until now we have let them share the next day but want them to start taking more responsibility). This week the focus is a Healthy Activity or picture of a healthy activity.  They will not be able to share if they have not followed the focus.  A schedule will be posted on the bulletin board outside the classroom and on the blog.

Blog -  Hopefully you are visiting our blog weekly.  Ideally it is best to go to it with your child so you can share things together and hopefully discuss their week at school in more detail.  Please fill out the section below as we need to learn who is visiting the blog.  Our photocopy numbers are limited so this hopefully is our last hard copy newsletter.    The February calendar is on the blog.  Just a reminder that the address for the blog is at the front of your child’s planner.

If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to call or write a note in the planner.

Melissa Lemire
