HAPPY NEW YEAR!

JANUARY 2013 NEWS FOR DIVISION 9

Happy New Year Everyone!   Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas vacation.  Our first week back has been busy! We wrote our Five Senses Memories from our Christmas Vacation, played a real fun New Year’s odd/even math game (if you are interested in playing at home please send me a note and I will make you a copy to play at home) and also set goals or resolutions for the new year so that we are “Starting off on the Right Foot!”   If you are in the school stop by and see the bulletin board outside our classroom.  Thursday was a very exciting day as we learned how to drum and at the end of the day, the whole school did a presentation.  Fairview really is a talented school – we sounded great!

We have started our new theme on the Human Body and Nutrition.  We will first focus on the body and then move into Healthy Eating.  Our field trip to Save-On Foods on Friday, Jan. 18th will be an exciting way to learn more about Nutrition.  We will also be doing a mini-unit on mapping and the students will need to follow a map while walking to Save-on Foods.  Therefore it is even more important that we have as many parent volunteers for this trip as possible.  Please return your forms asap.

Our family reading each morning unfortunately has not been very successful so instead I thought we would try Friday our Family Reading Day!  In the past that has been the day that we have had the most parent readers.  If you are only available on a different day but would still like to come to read please just come see me and we can make some arrangements.

This winter term is very important so I wanted to stress the importance of regular routines and bedtimes (please remember to read daily and sign the planner).  Your child will continue to sign out a book of their choice each morning but should also continue to bring their JRR bag of books to school daily.  Just a reminder to please check our class blog each week - but also for our January calendar.  In case you don’t have the address it is: http://fairviewrt.blogspot.ca/
or you can go to Fairview Elementary – Class websites and then Mrs. Rowledge-Toscani.   Could you please write a note in the planner to let me know if you are accessing the blog?  Ideally I would like to stop sending paper notices but I also need to ensure that everyone is aware of what is happening in Div. 9.   Thank you.

Starting next Monday, Division 9 is very lucky to that Mrs. Lemire will be joining our class.  She has written this letter to all of you:

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I would like to introduce myself, Mrs Lemire, as the student teacher for your child’s class beginning January 14th until mid April.  I am completing my final practicum experience with your child’s class as part of the SFU Professional Development Program under the guidance of Mrs Rowledge-Toscani.
I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with your child and have many great projects and experiences for them to learn and grow from.  We will be exploring such units as the Human Body, Healthy Nutrition and Dance and Creative Movement during Gym.
I encourage you to come by the classroom to say hello and welcome any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Mrs Lemire

Attached is also the January calendar for your fridge.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to stop by, email or give me a call.
