April News

APRIL NEWS  - DIVISION 9 NEWS

Happy Spring!   Hope you all had a great spring break and that you enjoyed the wonderful weather that we had.  It was great meeting with you at the conferences, we still have a few parents to meet with but plan to send home the report cards this week.  Please remember to sign the envelope and return it to school.

As a follow up to our conferences, I want to remind all parents that the expectations for homework for 5,6,7 year olds should be approximately 10 minutes per day.  Generally all I ask is that they are reading daily; there are however many different ways to read…
1)    have your child read out loud to you or another family member (even a pet)
2)    alternate reading (you read a page they read a page), have them find words on a page
3)    read together
4)    for more independent readers they could sometimes read independently and then come tell you what happened, who were the characters, setting, favorite parts, etc.
5)    draw a picture about the book
6)    read to them
Try to change it up, make this time fun. When there is a night your child is tired or just not interested, just let them snuggle up while you read to them or maybe play a game to practice math instead.
If you need any other suggestions or would like to talk to me in more detail about this please just let me know.

Even though the weather is nicer and the nights are lighter longer please try to keep regular bedtimes and routines as much as possible.  I do realize it is a busy sport season as well but these last three months of school are very important and we still have lots to cover.

Division 9 won second place for primary classes in our Club RED program.  We won a class set of hot chocolate so tomorrow FRIDAY, APRIL 5th just before lunch we will be walking to and from Starbucks.  You do not need to sign a special field trip notice as it is under the general walking permission form that you signed at the beginning of the year.

Ms Lemire will only be with our class until next Wednesday.  It has been great having her with us and we will all miss her but wish her all the best in her upcoming teaching career.

Class Photo Day is Tuesday, April 16th.

Sharing for these first two weeks of April will be free choice.  After that we will be starting our Scientist of the Day for several weeks so there will not be any sharing.  Scientist information will be coming home next week.

Thanks to the PAC, we are participating in Musical Theatre classees with Kayla.  Division 9 is learning the song “Hakuna Matada”.   If possible could you practice this song with your child.  We will be having several sessions with Kayla and then there will be a special presentation on April 29th in the afternoon.

Don’t forget to be checking our blog weekly.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to come and see me or write a note in the planner.
