HAPPY SUMMER!

I hope you all enjoy the memory books; and that they are something that is treasured for many years.
The children were so excited to see them  and wanted to keep looking through them.   Their comments were worth all the work!   "Oh, I remember that!"  "I loved making those snowmen!"  "Look at all of us at Halloween!"  "Look at Mrs. Lemire when she was Nelly Nutrition!"

We discovered today that Division 9 lost a total of 49 teeth this school year!

Congratulations boys and girls - you have completed a great year of school!  Good work and thank you for a great year!  Thanks also to all of you parents for your support; education really is teamwork between child, parents and teachers.

Hope you all have a fun-filled and safe summer! Your child should have brought home a "Summer Diary".  I encouraged them to write all about their summer adventures, they do not have to return thees but I did say that I would love to read them if they did bring them back.

See you all in September.  The children return to their teacher from last year for the first week of school.

Anyone that has read 100 minutes please return your paper popsicles tomorrow.  If you have lost the paper but your child did do the reading please send me a note as we will be doing the trade tomorrow (Wednesday),    Students that do not return the paper or a note will not be getting a popsicle as they need to have done the reading.  Thanks for your support with this program.

ALSO PLEASE NOTE THE STUDENTS DECIDED WE NEEDED TO HAVE ONE MORE PAJAMA DAY!   SO TOMORROW IS PAJAMA DAY!  WE WILL HAVE POPSICLES IN OUR PAJAMAS!

Thank You!

A big thank you to the following students and parents that provided all the snacks and goodies for our year end celebration!

KENDRA, MORGAN, MAKAYLA, NIC PLUS COLE AND HILA (THEY HAD ALREADY BOUGHT SOMETHING FOR ANOTHER OCCASION THIS YEAR!)

Inuksuit - By Division 9

Mrs. Casey came to our class this morning and with learned all about Inuksuit (this is the plural of inukshuk).  She taught us all about them, showed us pictures, read a really neat story and then we each got to make our own Inukshuk out of graham wafers and icing!   Then we got to eat them, yummy!

Thank you Mrs. Casey!  We learned and had a lot of fun!

June 21/13

Our Ocean Presentation on Tuesday was great!   We rotated through three stations... 1)  Over Fishing  2)  Salinity and Density  (how salt water makes it easier for things to float and 3) How Blubber Keeps a Whale warm - ask your child about each of these stations.  As you know Amanda also brought each of us our very own container of sea monkeys (with instructions and food).  If for some reason these didn't all arrive home please let me know.

We tried wearing a 'Blubber Glove'  to help us understand how blubber keeps a whale warm!

Thanks to Cole's mom who helped us to make our summer trees for our memory books.  We actually used our 'hot air' to blow the paint around to make the leaves.

We have been busy this week working on our Ocean Lapbook, geometry in math and finishing our last rotation of Reader's Workshop.  We are reading poems this time, I need to practice my poem so that I am ready to present with my group.

Thanks to Jordyn, Jaxon, Cole, Emily, Zackary, Karman's parents who helped make our field trip for bowling possible (Also thanks to Tessa's mom from Div. 8 who drove 3 students in our class).  We had lots of fun and even did some pretty good bowling!

Popsicle reading is due Monday, students that return their paper popsicles will receive a real one on Wednesday.  If your child has read 100 minutes please sign and return their pink notice.

Our Year End celebration will be Tuesday afternoon.   Thanks in advance to Emma, Makayla, Kendra and Morgan.    Thursday is the last day of school and dismissal will be at 12:00.

JUST RIGHT READING

All Just Right Reading need to be returned on Friday, June 21st.   Please also check around your homes for any classroom or library books that didn't make it back to school.  Thank you for your assistance with the return of all books.

Please put a couple of plastic bags in your child's back pack as I will be starting to send home some of their books and things and it will be much easier if they have a bag to put the 'stuff' into.  Thanks!

June 14th

Wow - we have had an exciting week!  The best of course was Fun Day!   Our favourite things were...
the Snowcones and Popcorn, the Balloon Target where if you hit the target you got someone wet!, the big slide, Under the Sea, Balloon Blow-up!, Wizard Castle, the Soccer Target and Jolt!

Thanks so much to the PAC for making this day possible.  We realize that we are a very lucky school to have this!  We made the PAC a special thank you today saying how we had a whale of a good time!

We also did a great job of singing at the Parent Volunteer Tea on Wednesday.  Thanks again to all of you that helped out during the year!

Today we started our Ocean Lap books with our big buddies.  We learned all the different creatures that are in a tide pool.

Hopefully everyone is busy reading and filling in their  Paper Popsicles!  Remember you can use your new Just Right Reading Books or any other books you have at home.

On Tuesday, June 18th Amanda Buchan will be here to do a special Ocean Presentation for Div. 8 and 9!  We think she will be surprised how much we have already learned.

Friday, June 21st at 12:40 is our Bowling Fieldtrip - please return your permission slips and money.  Unfortunately we did not have enough drivers so if anyone else is available to help out please let me know asap.   Thanks.

On Tuesday, June 25th in the afternoon we will have our year end celebration.  Thanks in advance to Emma for bringing a veggie tray, Makayla for the sweet treat, Kendra for chips or pretzels and Morgan for popcorn.  If any of you would rather bring a fruit tray or cheese/crackers or small sandwiches that would be fine too.  All students could bring a juice box to drink at our celebration.  Due to the fact we are having this celebration on Tuesday,  our popsicle celebration will be on Wednesday instead.   All paper popsicles however must be signed and returned by Monday, June 24th.

I will start to send home extra supplies that were not used this year.   If you could please send in a couple of plastic shopping bags so that when we start cleaning out we will have something to transport the 'stuff' home with that would be very helpful.

If anyone is able to volunteer to take home a bucket of math manipulatives that would also be greatly appreciated.  Basically all you did to do is fill a sink or bathtub with some soapy water and throw the objects in quickly wash and then lay out on a towel to dry.
